She's a true talent, and she's now working with Fauna & Flora International, the conservation group supported by Stephen Fry.

Feel a little of her passion, and - if you can - check out the official Fauna Flora website at http://www.fauna-flora.org/

* * *

I've spent years behind a desk for my job, and I've always been extremely lucky to have jobs that I have enjoyed and, most recently, that contribute directly to the wellbeing of others.

Though my 'ideal job' as a youngster would have been to be a forest ranger (I worked briefly as a volunteer on a nature reserve in North London), my career path took a very different course.

This time I've definitely hit the jackpot as far as jobs go - and I don't mean financially, but in terms of fulfilment and engagement.

Around me my colleagues talk of their time in Kenya, India, America, Alaska, Indonesia, Viet Nam and Antarctica. I am in fact now working for a conservation organisation where the employees are not just dedicated but hands-on experienced.

The Membership Secretary used to be an Antarctic Scientist, the Comms Officer use to work with endangered Wallabies in Australia and the Fundraising Officer (who I am slightly worried to find out loves dressing up as a gorilla) has spent time in Swaziland. Next month he is going out to Indonesia for more hands on conservation work (hopefully not in costume, he'd have some problems at customs). There are 60 people working for the charity in nearly every corner of the world.

The work I'm doing now, a change from my previous employment, means I need to learn (and quickly) about Fauna and Flora International's conservation projects: the work we do with (to name but a few) gorillas, trees, people, habitats, bats, carbon emissions, global warming, and - crucially - how to fund the work we do all over the planet.

In short, every day I work here inspires me (and also stirs some previously suppressed wanderlust). Most of the people round me are younger and have done or are doing their travelling now (for work, sabbatical, or just for the hell of it). I would love to travel more and even do some field work myself, but I do know that it's not all 'cute cuddly animals' - oh no!

The work this fantastic organisation does is much more varied than that - they work with Kyrgyzstani women to help manage the sustainability of their fruit and nut forests, help farmers build buffalo fences to protect their crops (and the buffalo) and help local communities to develop tourism and other forms of enterprise to reduce the impact on their environment.

The dedication of the people in the office is just a reflection of those out in the field - and I am very proud to be part of the oldest conservation charity in the world. I may only be here for a year, but you can bet your last pound (please make sure you tick the 'gift aid' box on your donation form!) that I am going to put everything I can into it - I'm already getting so much out.

I've never been afraid to get my hands dirty, so who knows, one day I may actually do something a bit more adventurous with the rest of my life.

The thing is, believe you can, and you will.

Carolyn

Web: www.fauna-flora.org
Twitter: www.twitter.com/carriesheppard

Carolyn is a professional marketer turned fundraiser, with a passion for wildlife, music and writing. She lives near Cambridge - a city famed for its history and a landscape famed for its flatness.

Spread the Love!

Hello world!

Your mission for today is this - Go out and share the love!

Don't know how?

Well, here are just a few ideas:

* Say it with flowers. Give roses to someone - anyone - to brighten up their day.

* Circulate your favorite love poetry. Better still, write your own!

* Give a friend a hug today. Ask them to pass it on!

* Say `I love you!' to all those you really care about.

* Express your love for the world around you by showing how much you care.

And don't forget to love yourself! Yes, that's right. You need to invest love in yourself too. When you are embraced in love, your heart is free to love others.

Charles Dickens once said:

"A loving heart is the truest wisdom!"

Wasn't he just so right?

So, go out and spread some love today.

Here's sending you much love from me... xx

Now, pass it on!

The Secrets of REAL Hypnosis

How would YOU like to LEARN the *REAL* SECRETS of HYPNOSIS?

Michael Masterman is one of the world's most renowned hypnotists.

Students travel from across the globe to listen to him teach his "REAL HYPNOSIS" secrets in the heart of London each year.

In class, Michael shows students how to heal long-standing fears and phobias within just MINUTES. He demonstrates how to CONTROL another person's thoughts, during regular day-to-day conversation. And he shows his students how to CHANGE their own limiting thought patterns INSTANTLY.

All this, using the power of what he calls "REAL HYPNOSIS."

If you've encountered Michael's work before, you'll know that the man is a GENIUS.

His "secret hypnosis techniques" are miles ahead of ANYTHING the hypnosis community has seen before. He's changing lives across the world -- and his methods have REALLY blown me away over the past few weeks.

This month, Michael finished compiling all of his hypnosis tricks, techniques and methods into one all-revealing book called "The Secrets of REAL Hypnosis!"

It's for ANYONE - from beginners to professionals - and covers self-hypnosis, hypnotherapy, and even stage hypnosis. There are no holds barred -- and the course is AMAZING.

Whether you want to dramatically change your own life, help super-hypnotize those around you, or simply want to INFLUENCE the people you come into contact with, Michael will show you HOW.

It's an absolute MUST-READ for ANYONE interested in personal development.

So, if you get chance, I'd URGE YOU to stop by his official website online and check it out:

http://www.hypnosiscoach.com/

You'll be amazed at what Michael has to offer.

Trust You!

I was thinking the other day about the amount of conflicting advice there is out in the world.

With so many points of view, it can sometimes be difficult just making a decision these days.

Take chocolate for example.

Now, I'm sure you've seen plenty of studies that say that a little chocolate is actually good for you. Then comes another study to say it isn't!

So, who's right? Who do you believe?

In an information-overloaded world, where conflicting advice is commonplace, it's important to start trusting your inner wisdom.

It's easy to be swept away on a tide of opinion, fads, and studies, but everyone's different. What works for one, might not work for another.

So, start making decisions, based on common sense and balance, on what you feel is right for YOU!

Learn to trust more in your inner wisdom and you'll start taking control of your life rather than let someone else's ideas govern it for you.

Recognize that you do have choices.

Start with the chocolate! If you like chocolate, a little as a treat from time-to-time won't do you any harm so enjoy it.

If, when making decisions, you have doubt, live by the mantra: All Things in Moderation! It's amazingly simple but really makes sense!

Trust in your instincts and you'll find that making choices will become so much easier.

Time Conquers All

Time is, undoubtedly, one of our greatest preoccupations in life.

It's something that we never seem to have enough of.

The concept of time was recently explored in fascinating detail by Professor Brian Cox on Horizon in a program titled `What Time is It?' Do watch it if the opportunity arises as it'll make you think about time in ways that will inspire you!

Here are a few interesting facts relating to time:

* The ancient Greeks enjoyed a ten-day week!

* The Romans constructed their first sundial in 164 BC

* Some of the earliest clocks only showed hours.

* A jiffy is a period of time lasting only 1/100 of a second.

* At the speed of light, time stops!

* It is said that the Hopi Indians in Arizona do not measure the passing of time.

* The pendulum clock was developed in the 17th century.

* Time passes more slowly in the Earth's orbit so when astronauts return, they are a little younger than if they had spent the time on Earth.

* Time is relative to the person observing it!

Are you having the time of your life? I hope so! Because remember -

The Roman poet Ovid once said: `Tempus edax rerum', which means Time conquers all!

Enjoy your day!
 <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; (1842 - 1910), was a pioneering American psychologist and philosopher, who said:

"If you would be learned, you will be learned ... if you would be rich, you will be rich ... but work for whatever it is you want exclusively and don't at the same time wish for a thousand other things.

"We become what we make our minds to become. It is nobody's fault that the great majority of the people never make up their minds to become anything at all."

How true is that?

We are what we make our minds up to become, but it is so easy to be distracted with a million and one different things, especially with the Internet. We are bombarded with new ideas, new information, and new opportunities every day.

But we need to learn to focus and stop ourselves from suffering from information overload.

How many people go through life plodding along, and at the end of it realize they have achieved nothing at all? Don't let this happen to you!

James went on to say:

"There is no more miserable a human being than one in whom nothing is habitual but indecision.

"The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes."

Once you decide to take action and focus on what you want to become, then you will be well on the way to fulfilling your life's calling.

At the end of your life you'll be able to look back and have no regrets.

James said:

"Act as if what you do makes a difference... It does."

Persistence is More Important than Talent

Think about it.

When you're younger there's a notion that if you're talented - at writing, art, sport, music, drama, whatever - you are going to be the next highly successful person.

But in reality this just doesn't always bear out. Talent is not enough.

The world is littered with extremely talented people who just didn't persist or put in the time. Talent alone doesn't get you there. You need to put in the hard slog too.

Persistence is the ability to maintain action regardless of your feelings.

You press on even when you feel like quitting.

When you work on any big goal, sometimes you'll feel motivated; sometimes you won't. But it's not your motivation that will produce results - it's your action.

Persistence allows you to keep taking action even when you don't feel motivated to do so, and therefore you keep moving forward towards your goal.

Persistence will ultimately provide its own motivation. If you simply keep taking action, you'll eventually get results, and results can be very motivating.

For example, you decide to write a novel and struggle with the first three chapters, but than you feel the story is taking a life of its own and is starting to flow on the page. It's then you become a lot more enthusiastic about writing the rest of the novel.

Are you putting enough work into your endeavors, or are you just dreaming of the golden times ahead?

Don't be a dreamer, be a doer!

Now go out there and keep on knocking on those doors of opportunity!

On Procrastination

How are those New Year resolutions going so far?

In today's video - created as part of the 30 Day Challenge - I talk about how to beat procrastination, and get on with your goals!

(Can't see the video? They believe they cannot change and there is no point in even trying. Such people just think they are being realistic.

But we know the truth!

Success is there for anyone who will get off his or her backside and chase it down! You know and truly believe that whatever you want, you can go out there and seize it. You can imagine and feel it before you even have it! Your enthusiasm and belief pulls you to success.

Don't follow the crowd who believe in mediocrity, but follow your own path and live life to the full. Once you understand the power of belief, you will recognize the role it plays in achieving success.

Simply believing that something can be done multiplies your chances of success ten-fold, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy!

U.S. Olympic Gold Medallist Gail Devers said:

"Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe."

Wise words!

So, how's your self-belief? Are you a winner? You are able to be more in touch with who you are, and relationships with others and the world around you take on a deeper meaning.

The Scottish born American naturalist John Muir said:

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you... while cares will drop off like autumn leaves."

When out in the field you're much more likely to feel happy and comforted. You start to feel part of the rhythms of nature, a small part of something much bigger.

And as well as being good for the soul, spending time in the great outdoors - walking, cycling, and other outdoor pursuits - is a great way to stay fit and have fun!

John Shaw, professional nature photographer said:

"We are surrounded by beauty and live in a world of wonder, if only we take the time to see what is all around us and permit ourselves to feel deeply and genuinely. In the smallest detail we might discover tranquil harmony and in the largest expanse elation and joy. We can find meaning and values in caring for the Earth and its creatures."

So put on your walking boots and get out there! Spend a weekend away in a romantic cottage hideaway or treat yourself to a luxury country hotel.

With more space to breathe and more time to share, let the breathtaking natural beauty revitalize your spirit and stir your soul!

The Power of Breathing

Often, we spend days looking for that next big thing.

That next self-development course. That next personal improvement seminar. That next graphic-laden 'The Secret'-style DVD.

We spend so much time looking outside, that we don't look inside - into something that can truly change the way you feel RIGHT NOW.

. Your breathing patterns!

In today's video post, I'd like to chat briefly about "breathwork" - what it is, how it works - and how you can use it to enhance your mood, boost your immunity and rocket your mind power. Today.

Just click to play:

(If you can't see the video above, visit www.karlblog.com to watch.)

Release Your Genius!

Hello all you bright, wonderful people!

Are you in touch with your genius side today?

Yes ... you heard me right ... you do know that there is a genius within you? Yes, that's right!

In fact, your genius may already be revealing itself in the work that you do or in your creative pursuits. Or it could be that your genius is waiting to be discovered!

But what is it to be genius? Surely you need an amazing IQ or some incredible talent?

There are many interpretations of genius. Some define genius as being an individual who can apply his or herself to mastering a subject. There are, indeed, genius scientists and academics but there are also genius artists, musicians, artisans, and teachers.

Surely you have to be born with genius?

Well, there are certainly many people who believe that we all have potential for genius and that it can be shaped.

Writer Elizabeth Gilbert provided an inspiring talk at TED suggesting that we all have potential for genius.

It's definitely worth listening to!

So, how do you discover the genius within? Well, you could start focusing on what you're passionate about. Or you could try unlocking the genius within you. Instead we would be donating the money we would have spent to The Donna Louise Trust which is a local children's hospice.

I swear to you Karl that the feeling we had when we posted the cheque was immense, and they sent a simple reply which was a card from one of the little angels residing there, and just beneath her gorgeous little face she had written the words "Thank You Chris & Tina".

That little card is now sitting beneath our Christmas tree on its own.

And it means FAR FAR more than opening prezzies tomorrow morning. The feeling of giving, particularly to children, and particularly to children who may be enjoying their last Christmas is absolutely AMAZING.

Please forward this to anyone, everyone Karl if you wish. Tell them that GIVING and not receiving at Christmas feels absolutely AWESOME.

Have a GREAT Christmas my good friend, and we wish you everything you want and need for 2010

Chris & Tina

Visit and donate to the Donna Louise Hospice Trust at http://www.donnalouisetrust.org/

Merry Christmas!

(Can't see the video above? God Jul! Feliz Navidad! Nadolig Llawen! Feliz Natal! Buone Feste Natalizie! Joyeux Noel!

Yes, there are many ways to say Christmas.

And what does it all really mean?

Well -- to me, at least -- Christmas means LOVE.

Dale Evans said it best with:

"Every time we love, every time we give, it's Christmas."

Bob Hope backed her up, with:

"My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?"

Today, many hundreds of thousands of individuals across our great blue planet are celebrating. It's a great feeling.

And why should it stop here?

Speaking through the mouth of character Scrooge, Charles Dickens wrote in A Christmas Carol:

"I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year."

And if Scrooge can do it, everyone can!

Remember this moment... and let's keep the love alive!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

... AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT! :)

(PS. It's the time for you to open your heart and embrace the world around you.

You see, anyone that knows me... knows one thing.

I love this time of year!

It's magical. People everywhere -- at least those not caught in the crazed, ever-busy last-minute gift rush -- open their hearts and become just a little more loving.

It's the time we can officially be jovial and say "I LOVE YOU!" without feeling like an idiot.

It's rationed happiness.

Of course, you could be like that all year round -- and feel great as a result. But if you don't, AT LEAST do it for Christmas, and live every minute of the holidays to the full!

So, what can you do to get into the Christmas spirit?

Well, Random Acts of Kindness are a fantastic way to start!

They're small acts of kindness, done for the good of some stranger, solely for the purpose of making their like more joyful -- without expecting anything in return!

http://www.karlblog.com/blog/labels/random%20acts%20of%20kindness.html

Let me give you some examples.

This week, my mother donated much of her wages to abandoned cat and dog charities up in the North East of England. (And my mum has a lot of big bills to pay!)

On Saturday, I helped an elderly man overloaded with bags up the steep hill to our local train station.

Last night, I gave a surprise visit to an elderly friend -- and decorated his otherwise-Christmas-free house with bright tinsel and wreaths and "Merry Christmas!" signs. They cost me 7 in total, and changed his mindset completely!

Those are just a few festive Random Act's of Kindness you can use to change someone else's life -- and make yourself feel great at the same time.

A Random Act of Kindness is, after all, simply an act of love.

And what is Christmas if not love?

Before signing off today, I'd like to give you a couple of quick Christmas gifts.

Firstly, if you haven't yet downloaded the Karl Blog.com Christmas screensaver, then click here to learn more and download your copy for free.

Secondly, I've prepared an official greetings card just for YOU!

Please... I'd like you to ask that you take two seconds out to visit the following site and listen to my message...

www.KarlChristmas.com

I guarantee it'll pep up your day.

And so, as this glorious day slowly retires and the sound of sleighbells gently ring in the distance, allow me to wish you... a very, very merry Christmas!

With love, with happiness, with a big smile and wide pupils... I wish you all the very, very best.

:)

You Have a Greetings Card

Karl Moore has sent you a greetings card.

Click here to view it - http://www.karlchristmas.com/
